Exfoliation is the process of reducing excess non-living skin cells from the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum).

The stratum corneum is the skins first line of defence and can thicken with age, disease and exposure to sunlight (UV rays) giving a dull, thickened or leathery appearance often with clogged pores and fine lines.

Exfoliation is the process of reducing these non-living cells, allowing better penetration of topical penetrations, increased cell turnover (which slows as we age), stimulating collagen and elastin production, improving skin tone giving a more even appearance to the skin.

Exfoliating treatments have no downtime, leaving you with immediate results.

At Blyss, there are several exfoliation options available depending on your skins requirements.  

Microdermabrasion

A mechanical exfoliation involving a vacuum tip drawing very fine crystals across the skins surface, not only removing the dead skin cells but also stimulating blood flow, increasing the thickness of collagen fibres within the skin.  Microdermabrasion is the perfect way to jump start the exfoliation process for those who have clogged pores, thick weathered skin and those wanting a general ‘brightening’ treatment.

Peels

We offer a variety of Environ peels which we feel are the most effective peeling systems available, developed by plastic surgeon Dr Des Fernandes.

Trichloracetic Acid (TCA), in varying strengths, is used as it gives a controlled, safe and effective peel with no sensitivity or reactions. For more reactive or darker pigmented skins, we use a Lac-pamgel peel.

Dermaquest exfoliating peels

Utilising antioxidants, peptides and AHA’S, these peels contain 40% pumpkin pulp (vitamin A derivative), 10% Glycolic acid, 10% Lactic acid and 2% salicylic acid. These peels will leave the skin feeling smoother and soft to touch while minimising pore size.  Excellent for acne skins

Glycolic Acid Peel 70%

This physician level peel will increase cellular turnover as well as reduce fine lines and wrinkles while evening out skin tone and colour.  Perfect for environmentally damaged skins and grade 0 acne.
